Multiple engines were used throughout the existance of the C65. Originally ran with a Mazda rotary engine, the light weight proved to be successful as the car led much of the race in the racedepartment 12 hours of lemans in 2009. Electrical gremlins eventually put the car out 8 hours into the race but it managed to reach as high as 3rd overall at 1 point, ahead of many faster P1 cars. The change to the AER powerplant, while heavier, has increased power and fuel economy which are pivotal for endurance races with passing traffic and fuel strategy.
